The Art of Editing a Passage (ഒരു എഴുത്ത് തിരുത്തുന്നത് എങ്ങനെ)

Hi, my dear student! Do you know what "editing" means?

Imagine you have drawn a beautiful picture. Before you show it to your teacher or friends, you look at it, right? Maybe you see a line that is not straight, or a color that is outside the drawing. So, you fix it.

Editing is like fixing your drawing, but for your writing!

When you edit a passage (which is just a small piece of writing, like a paragraph or a few sentences), you check it carefully to make it perfect. You look for mistakes and make your writing better and clearer.

Why do we Edit? (എന്തിനാണ് നമ്മൾ തിരുത്തുന്നത്?)

We edit our writing to:

  • Make sure people understand our message easily. (എഴുതിയത് വ്യക്തമാകാൻ)

  • Show that we are careful and our work is good. (തെറ്റുകൾ ഒഴിവാക്കാൻ)

  • Fix mistakes so the writing looks nice and correct. (എഴുത്ത് മനോഹരമാക്കാൻ)

What to Look for When You Edit? (തിരുത്തുമ്പോൾ എന്തെല്ലാം ശ്രദ്ധിക്കണം?)

When you are editing your writing, look for these things:

  1. Spelling Mistakes (അക്ഷരത്തെറ്റുകൾ):

    • Are all the words written correctly?

    • Example: If you write "teh" instead of "the", you need to fix it.

    • Check: Read each word carefully.

  2. Capital Letters (വലിയ അക്ഷരങ്ങൾ):

    • Does every sentence start with a BIG letter?

    • Do names of people, places (like India, Kochi), and special days (like August) start with a BIG letter?

    • Check: Look at the start of sentences and special names.

  3. Full Stops and Question Marks (ഫുൾ സ്റ്റോപ്പും ചോദ്യചിഹ്നവും):

    • Does every sentence end with a full stop (.) or a question mark (?) if it's a question?

    • Check: Look at the end of every sentence.

  4. Grammar (വ്യാകരണ പിശകുകൾ): (This might be a little harder, but try to notice simple things)

    • Do the words fit together correctly?

    • Example: Do you say "He is running" or "He are running"? (Correct is 'is').

    • Check: Read the sentence aloud, does it sound right?

  5. Clear Meaning (വ്യക്തമായ അർത്ഥം):

    • Is your message easy to understand?

    • Does every sentence make sense?

    • Check: Read the whole passage. Will another person understand what you want to say?

How to Edit? (എങ്ങനെ തിരുത്താം?)

  1. Read Slowly: Read your writing slowly, sentence by sentence.

  2. Read Aloud: Sometimes, reading aloud helps you hear mistakes.

  3. Use a Pencil: If it's on paper, use a pencil to mark mistakes lightly.

Remember: Everyone makes mistakes when they write. Editing is a very good habit that helps you learn and make your writing shine!
